What are we researching?
«Holistic Product Development» is one of the research projects in SFI CELECT. We research these areas:
Integrated knowledge management. We explore how data, models, tools and human experience can be linked together in a single knowledge ecosystem. The aim is to make it easier to collect, organise and reuse knowledge across disciplines and development phases.
AI-assisted decision support. We explore how generative and predictive artificial intelligence (AI) can help engineers turn information into reliable decision support faster, more clearly and with higher quality.
Digital robustness and systems that work together. We shall develop methods that make tools, processes and organisations more robust against complexity and rapid technological change.
Why is this important?
- Despite major advances in digital technology and artificial intelligence, most methods for new product development (NPD) have changed little.
- Engineering teams today work across disciplines and digitally, but tools, processes and methods often still lag behind in traditional, closed innovation models. This makes it difficult to exploit the potential of modern, data-driven working methods.
- At the same time, industry must deal with more complex technologies, large amounts of data across systems, new EU requirements and a growing need for rapid learning and continuous innovation.
We work closely with partners from industry and the public sector to meet precisely these challenges.
We develop a new generation of methods, strategies and digital solutions that make product development more open, knowledge-driven and adapted to complex development processes.
